He will also participate in Moustache May, a community site wear hundreds of men take daily photos of their moustaches and give each other pats on the back for the best shots (love you guys :^D).

Shopping Etsy: Tennis, anyone?

For the past couple of years, a friend and I have gone to a local park and hit a couple balls during his work off-season. We call it tennis.

I’ve barely played in 20 years. He’s new to the game.  My forehand blows. His backhand (sorry, Nick) could use some help.

Every time we play, I leave the public courts determined to practice more or take some lessons. Eventually it gets hot, I get sedentary, and I don’t play until the next off-season and the urge strikes.

Maybe, just maybe some tennis-inspired Etsy will get the proverbial ball bouncing?

1.) ’70s Tennis Dress, $19
2.) Racket Pendant, $24
3.) Tennis Scarf, $3
4.) Wire Ball Basket, $40
5.) Forehand Checkbook Cover, $8
6.) Recycled Tennis Greeting Cards, $5
7.) Yellow & White Tennis Carry-all, $38

Wanna play? There are tennis leagues for beginners and intermediates at Encanto Park or  more lessons and leagues in Scottsdale.

Shopping Etsy: Fringe on top…and more

My post started this week with the Kiltie pumps below.

“Damn,” I thought, “fringe on a shoe is a good thing.” While I’m at it, how about on a bag? And I really like bangs, which my British friends refer to as fringe.

Thus, an entire post devoted to Etsy fringe. Enjoy.

1.) Leather Fringe Bag, $179
2.)
Multi-strand Tassle, $28
3.) Native American Style Handbag, $24.50
4.) Fringe Necklace, $74
5.) Vintage Caramel Kiltie Pumps, $38
6.) Vintage Fringe Wrap Dress, $16
7.) Leather Moccasins with Fringe, $49.95
8.) Vintage 1970s Loafers, $32

Shopping Etsy: Handkerchiefs

While trolling the 75% off  Frances sale, I stumbled onto a shelf with lots of  vintage handkerchiefs for $5 each. I bought 2.

I’ve never used a handkerchief, but I’ve always been fascinated by them.

Sure, the idea of blowing your nose on something, sticking it into your pocket, then reusing the same snotty rag again and again, well, it seems a little gross.

Even if you wash it, you know what was on there.

As long as you don’t have a perpetual sinus infection,  it could be okay…maybe?

Regardless of your feelings on phlegm, vintage handkerchiefs come in a variety of pretty colors and patterns that are pretty to look at, utilitarian or not.

I recently found some of my favorite hankies on Etsy:

Shopping Etsy: Alaska

I just got back from a trip to Alaska to see my sister-in-law and her family.

Not being particularly outdoorsy, I wasn’t expecting to really like it…but I LOVED the majestic beauty and adventure…despite the threat of death at every turn.

Possible deaths: Mud flats (you sink, the tide comes in, you drown), avalanche, moose trampling, drunk driving around dangerous curves, BEARS…

Anyway, some Etsy products that are reminiscent of my near-death Alaskan adventure.
081209etsyalaska

1.) Formal Bear Original Linocut, $8
The threat of bears was ever-present. I might not have been so frightened if I thought one would be smoking a pipe and wearing a top hat.

2.)
Large Moose Trophy Head, $52
I saw 2 babies and a mom in the wild, which nearly trampled my nephew. This cardboard variety won’t kill you.

3.) Birch Glow Watercolor, $75
Cold beauty. Bet that cold could kill you.

4.) Puffin Stickers, $3.99
I didn’t actually see a puffin, much to my parents’ chagrin. I think they are actually benign.

5.) Vintage Alaska Tablecloth, $18.50
Eat some carnage on this retro Alaska tablecloth.

6.) Organic Deep Conditioning Hair Mask Conditioner in Sun Ripened Raspberry Scent, $6
Wild raspberries are drop dead delicious.

7.) Mushroom Pocketbook, $32
If you eat an real life Amanita Muscaria, the result could be kidney failure. Not death, but carrying this cute wallet is probably safer.

8.) Vintage Salmon Pin, $10
Watched the running of the salmon, which could only kill you if you do so with a bear. Sadly, the salmon are the ones that end up dying after they lay their eggs.

Back-to-school shopping

emma_watsonI remember when back-to-school shopping meant jeans with a lipstick patch on the pocket and polo shirts.

This year, I’m teaching a class (Jesus!), so my back to school ensembles should be a little more…professional.

What I’m wanting: Emma Watson’s look from the July issue of Teen Vogue. Though I’ll probably go sans stole.

I’ve been looking to eBay and Etsy for the look for less. Shop red blazers on eBay and chain necklaces on Etsy.

More things I’m looking at for fall on my Spinning Wheels blog
