CRACKING GOOD THINGS OF THE WEEK

Phoenix vintage: Red & Mint

Red Modern Furniture fills most of its cool 2-story building with sleek, modern furniture and cool knick-knacks. Inside, you’ll find a lot of wood, leather and metal pieces peppered with some fun and funky furniture, paintings, and sculptures.

Mid-century modern buffet. They’ve got it.

Presidential portraits, they’ve got  those too.

I covet a lot of the store merchandise, but be warned, this is not a shopping spot for DIYers or deal hunters. This is a destination for mid-century modern in great condition — and you pay for that.

Upon entering Red, you’ll run right into the Mint Vintage Clothing section of the store; A small collection of great clothing and accessories. There you’re likely to find something funky and cheap (’80s anchor earrings) as you are to stumble upon a designer find.

After all, the thrill is in the hunt!

Overstuffed in a bad way

What’s Cracking Good — A neat wallet

My wallet doesn’t close.

I haven’t tried that hard, but I can tell it would take some doing.

It’s stuffed with a bit of cash, a lot of receipts, ever multiplying rewards cards, about 5 credit cards (some multiples, some expired), about 3 different picture IDs, some business cards…and probably a couple of other things I’ve forgotten about.

I once saw Suze Orman on Oprah preaching something about your treatment of money relating to how much you have. No wonder I have so little. I’m borderline-abusive to my wallet.

I recently got an email with the ideal wallet contents, which includes:

How does my garden grow: July

My garden posts have been sort of slim. Who wants to go outside to take pictures. It’s flippin’ HOT!

Right now, my garden is a mix of thriving and dying.

Thriving: Black-eyed peas

Dying: Sunflowers

Thriving: Mint

Dying: Cucumbers

The perfect tint is hard to find

What’s Cracking Good — Lip and cheek stain

Vincent Longo’s Cupid’s Breath lip and cheek tint was my desert island beauty product.

With a swipe of the sponge-y tip, a natural-looking shade of color appeared on my lips and cheeks like magic, waking me from the dead in under 15 seconds.

Now, however, Cupid’s Breath is nowhere to be found. Amazon lists it, but claims it’s out of stock. I had a brief moment of hope when I saw it listed in In Style Magazine — but still, my favorite color is elusive.

I’m now scraping the contents out of my current tube. I’m going to have to come up with an alternative.

Here are a few I’m looking at:

1.) Sephora Lush Flush Lip & Cheek Stain , $12 in Red Wine and Rose

2.) Vincent Longo’s My Sunshine Lip & Cheek Stain, $22.50
It’s the same formula in a different, more orange-y tint. This is the one I actually purchased. It’s okay, but I kind of look like I got into some Kool-Aid.

3.) Mark Gloss Gorgeous Stay On Lip Stain, $9
You can afford to try several of the stay-on shades.

4.) Jemma Kidd Rosy Glow Lip & Cheek Tint, $28
Super-sheer color

5.) Marry Me Lip & Cheek Stain, $22.50

Any suggestions?
