July 4th-wear

Celebrate the country’s independence with a little festive red, white and blue (and vintage):

My personal space is in New Times

A friend interning at New Times this summer sent me an email asking to take pictures of my house for a new section called “Personal Space.”

I like my house…so I agreed.

My husband stressed about it.

“I’m not worrying about it — it’s how we live. I like it when they aren’t all perfect,” I told him.

That said — I still put the ratty cat-scratch ottomans and some superfluous knick-knacks in the “junk room.”

What (or Who) is Cracking Good — Banksy

I can’t say I was really excited to see the movie.

It was Sunday, 110 degrees and I was headed to see an art film, Banksy’s Exit Through the Gift Shop. I didn’t really feel like it, but friends were going, my husband was interested. What else was I going to do?

I’d heard of Banksy (pronounced Banks -y.  I had always thought it was Ban – sky) in general terms: street artist, London, blah blah blah.

He  produced things like this and this on Isreal’s West Bank Wall and this and this in London.

I braced myself for an art film.  And then for the next 90 minutes — I smiled.

What I came away with: Banksy is genius. Clever, talented, funny…and a flippin’ genius.

“That was so fun!” I enthused upon exiting. “And probably totally fake,” remarked someone else.

I hope so. I really hope so.

On the way out, my husband and I passed an older gentleman going to the theater, “What did you see?” he asked us.

Exit Through the Gift Shop,” we replied.

“Did you like it?” he continued.

“It was a lot of fun,” I told him. “What are you going to see?”

“Now I’m going to see that movie.”

I love that old man.

Phoenix fry-ups

What’s Cracking Good — An unexpected fried egg
I think a fried egg on just about anything makes it better. Fried egg on enchiladas, delicious. Fried egg on pizza, genius! Fried egg on a hamburger, yes please.

Here are 4 of my favorite “unexpected” fried eggs — plus a few that sound delicious:

1) Naco Torta @ Gallo Blanco
A sandwich made with carne asada and avocado on a soft roll tastes delicious. Add a fried egg — it’s heaven!

2) Pizza @ La Grande Orange
Add an egg to any pizza on the menu free of charge.

3) Enchilada Dinner @ Los Dos Molinos
You can get your enchilada dinner at Los Dos Molinas with red or green chili, beef or chicken. All, however, come with a fried egg. $11.95 – 12.95

4) Any hamburger @ Fatburger
Fast food means you get your fried egg quickly. Try a Fatburger, turkey burger or veggie burger — and add an egg.

- Basil Leaf Chicken @ Latitude 8
Ground chicken, thai basil, chili, rice and a fried egg — almost makes you want to depart for the Chandler Thai spot, pronto!

- Roast Beef Sandwich @ Hanny’s
Get the ribeye, bacon, arugula and a fried egg sandwich on ciabatta bread until 1 a.m. everyday.

Any others?
