Buy your own Uniform…and help children go to school

If you haven’t been following the Uniform Project for the past 10 months or so, let me catch you up.

As an exercise in sustainable fashion and a fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, Sheena Matheiken pledged to wear 1 dress for 365 days, changing only her accessories (which, by the way, are mostly vintage or donated). So it’s not gross, she will have 7 different dresses of the same style, but she’ll wear it every…single…day.

She started in May of 2009 — so her year-long stint is nearly over. She is now auctioning off some of her LBD accessories on eBay to raise more money for Indian children to go to school. The first auction is in progress and ends April 8th. The second waves goes from April 5 – 12.

Not into used accessories? Buy your own made-to-order reversible LBD a la The Uniform Project for $180.

Phoenix vintage: Blueberry Deluxe Boutique

Hollywood Regency might have moved to an antique mall farther down 7th Avenue, but the old vintage flavor is still in the ‘hood.

In the same Montecito strip mall a few doors down, Blueberry Deluxe Boutique, a funky new vintage shop, is selling women’s clothing & accessories and the occasional product by a new artist.

Blueberry Deluxe features a small, but well-edited collection of mid-priced finds  (the dresses I liked ran around $40). Check it out — Blueberries are good for you.

I’ve been waiting, for a boot like you…

“I think I’ve found the boots you’ve been looking for,” emails my sister, with a link to the boots at right.

I can see them with a pair of skinny-ish jeans tucked into them. I can imagine them and a little floral dress.

Hmmm, she might be right.

I’ve had a very fickle shoe season. I like moccasins. Wait, no…I think I want oxfords. No, no, no…boots. Oh, maybe moccasin boots!

With so much footwear out there, it’s easy to see how one might encounter a footwear conundrum.

Which ones does a gal get?

A. Steve Madden Vintigee Boots, $150

B. Topshop Millie Canvas Boots, $70

C. Clark Desert Boots, $90

D. Minnetonka Tramper Ankle Hi Boot, $59

E. You don’t need no stinkin’ boots.

They grow up so fast

“Maybe I shouldn’t have soaked them before planting,” I lamented. “Maybe I should get some new seeds?”

After a week and seeing growth from most of my other seeds, I was starting to worry about the row of lima beans I’d planted over a week ago.

Well, turns out, my worrying was unneeded, because they are emerging, and they are GIANT.

Here is one of my newly sprouted lima bean plants:

Here I’m taking a picture of the same lima with my finger, to show the true . Remember, this seedling just emerged yesterday!
